It has been about one year since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released guidelines on the preferred treatment of chronic pain. Over the years, opioids have become a go-to option for treating chronic pain. However, these guidelines recommend a shift towards alternative treatments with better outcomes for chronic pain sufferers. Physical therapy is highlighted as a top option for patients battling chronic pain!
Research has found that movement can be the best remedy, and at PTOSI we specialize in helping patients get relief through manual therapy and exercises tailored to the patients’ needs. PTOSI has experience in getting patients relief from chronic low back, neck, shoulder, hip, and knee pain for over 34 years. It is even commonplace for a patient at PTOSI to have seen more than one previous physical therapist, yet experience more relief than in the past due to our extensive experience.
In 2015, we partnered with Health Partners at the Mercy Healthcare Center in Coon Rapids to specialize in treating patients with chronic pain in a multidisciplinary clinic which features medical doctors, a nurse practitioner, a health psychologist, and two PTOSI physical therapists. This clinic specializes in decreasing the need for taking medications (namely opioids), injections, and surgeries and helps patients learn how to relieve their pain and increase their quality of life!
